HOW WE DO IT
Workshops -
Drama is the vehicle through which we deliver life changing lessons. Each workshop is carefully designed to empower and equip students to deal with issues they may face in the real world. We take learning objectives relating to our PSHE curriculum and pair them with dramatic conventions to learn through the production process, resulting in a powerful performance.

WHAT YOU SEE
The performance! -
While the performance is entertaining and confidence boosting, it is also the student's opportunity to demonstrate their practical understanding of the topics covered over the course of the project. You will see performances that are fuelled by a comprehensive understanding of the PSHE topics taught throughout the curriculum.

ABOUT BLOOM
Bloom workshops are primarily delivered to faith-based primary schools in Trafford, and is led by Eleanor Motyer-Lowndes (BAHons Theatre and Performance, University of Bristol, VCMDip Drama Education, Victoria College of Music and Drama, London).
Every Bloom session aims to encourage knowledgeable and skilled children who can apply what they know, think critically, evaluate reflectively and respond to challenges creatively. We work closely with schools, families, and our children to ensure that our product is enhancing each child's emotional intelligence and awareness, while offering a cultural experience that might otherwise be unavailable to them.
Bloom is named after Benjamin Bloom, who chaired a committee of educators responsible for devising the educational model known as "Bloom's Taxonomy". Since its publication in 1958, the taxonomy has been the standard bearer for teachers across the world as the roadmap for teaching and learning. In 2001, the taxonomy was restructured to place creativity at the top - with the committee labeling it the very highest form of thinking.

HOW IT WORKS
-
Weekly Performing Arts MasterclassesParticipating children enjoy a 90 minute after-school performing arts masterclass each week in their school hall. Sessions are a tried and tested blend of exciting games and engaging performing arts activities designed to support pupils' personal, social, and academic development. Our focus is placed on exploring personal growth through drama to develop a child's critical understanding of the world around them. For each project, we tackle PSHE issues in line with the themes of the chosen performance. The performances at the end of each project are showcases of this learning. You can expect your child to learn around topics of: - Identity - Diversity and Equality - Identifying Bullying and Risks - Safety Strategies - Rights, Responsibilities and Consent - Mental Health - Healthy Friendships - Positive Self Talk - Change and Resilience The topic for each project is decided by the themes of the chosen play.

Youth Theatre AcademyThe Youth Theatre Academy is an exclusive programme for Years 7 – 13 that expertly integrates GCSE Drama skills with GCSE English content in order to give members an exceptional advantage in their school work. The vision for the Youth Theatre Academy is simple: teach members the skills that will put them ahead in GCSE Drama, while studying and performing texts and plays directly sourced from the GCSE English curriculum. This means that, by the time students come to analyse a play or text for their GCSE English exams, they have already embodied the characters and told the story themselves – thereby having a rich depth of understanding of the material before the majority of their peers are even introduced to the content. Meanwhile, the practical elements of the projects focus on the Assessment Objectives (AOs) of GCSE Drama, so that members’ skills are razor sharp when it comes to their Drama lessons at school, and they are the stand-out performers in their practical GCSE Drama exams. See the table at the bottom of this page to see how the YTA brings together the different AOs from GCSE Drama, English Language, and English Literature. The YTA produces two projects per year – the first is the exam, and takes place at the end of the winter term, and the second is the company’s main production which takes place at the end of the summer term. During the second project, the Youth Theatre Academy students are given the opportunity to train in the production side of theatre, including: Sound Design Sound Operation using QLab Lighting Design Lighting Operation Stage Management Costume Design Set Design Set Management Stage Hands The students train in and create their production area from the very beginning of the process. This is an opportunity to gain experience with professional equipment and training from accomplished theatrical producers. We even give them a budget to work with! By the end of the process they will be confident in designing, creating and operating their production area. Our aim is to equip the next generation of theatre makers with an understanding across all areas of performance including technical.
-
PerformancesChildren work towards two performances per year: February - Exam performances July - Summer Spectacular February's performances are short extracts from a given play showcased together for an examiner from Victoria College Exams, while July's performances are musical theatre productions including acting, singing and dancing!
-
AwardsFebruary's performances are exam performances. Our friends at the Victoria College of Music and Drama, London, send an examiner to watch the children's performance and award them a grade (1-8 as with a musical instrument) in Group Acting. Children prepare a short performance that meets the requirements of the exam syllabus and present it for an audience of family and friends one week before the February half term break. Students will be presented with their awards on stage after their participation in July's Summer Spectacular.
-

Bloom t-shirts are made to order and a separate charge that will be added to your first bill.

How It Works
WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY
" We've been doing absolutely amazing things! We've been learning scenes, learning lines, and getting into outfits. It's just been the best. "
" Drama is a place where I can escape and forget everything that's happened during the day and have fun with some of my friends and just enjoy myself. "

WHAT OUR PARENTS SAY
"I just wanted to say thank you so much for today. We were bursting with pride watching him and all his friends, it was truly wonderful what all the children produced today. The fact you use drama in the way you do is so positive, it was so much more than just a performance. We watched as he left the stage having done his big scene and saw his friends congratulate him which was perhaps the most magical part, seeing how it brought them all together like that. Thank you so much for giving them the opportunity and enjoyment that today did. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bloom to everyone."
